DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Violence, for me, is rooted beyond the superficial main discussion. We cannot discuss domestic violence without looking at the roots of violence in our world. It also why during these critical times of crisis. I want to start this section of this page with one of the people I admire the most in the world. General Romeo Dallaire, who for whatever reason, was sent to this world to witness one of the worst human atrocities- Genocide. It is from this place that I want to share with you the impact of violence on a grand scale. Where this level of aggression comes from is no different than where what we experience in other types of violence around the world. It is an issue widely accepted as a norm and seldom discussed in terms of prevention. Furthermore, it is not often addressed in something that started a long time ago and has continued to be passed down through generations. Ultimately, it has seeped into our homes and daily public spaces. ~ Roxana

Abuse can happen anywhere. It can happen at home, at work, or elsewhere. And there are different types of abuse – physical, emotional, verbal.

What do you do when you find out that a colleague is abused? Do you treat that person the same? Differently? How do you react? Do you report it?

Hearing news that serious about a colleague, or witnessing abuse, can cause one to feel uncomfortable. And that only makes matters worse. If someone confides in you about his or her home situation or exhibits signs that this is true, you need to know how to react.

Roxana Damas, Sr. Managing Director at Diversity RD Global, an expert in Latino, immigration, diversity, and domestic violence issues will be joining us to discuss this topic.

She’ll be discussing:
What to say and not say around an abuse victim
What are the signs that someone may be abused at home, at work, or elsewhere
What is the best approach to help this person
